Go, wolves, go! Go, wolves, go! The whole arena chanted as the center screen showed us the words to fill our lungs and support the Sudbury local team. What an experience, eh! Listen, when I was invited to watch the Sudbury Wolves game, I didn't know what to expect. I've seen hockey games since I was a boy, and I really like the adrenaline of the games, how fast it plays, and the fear of getting hit by the puck. This fear was not shaken even by seeing the net surrounding the back and front of the arena, and even though it was big, I saw pucks flying to the stands, It's scary :S. Call me a wuss, but, hey, I'm not used to it, lol. Ok, but back to action.
I've lived in Sudbury for over a year and live close to the Sudbury Arena. It surprised me how many people it can fit, a lot. I'm more fond of football (real football, not eggball, the one you call "soccer" 🙄), but who am I to judge, right Sudbury? But I love Sudbury's appreciation for hockey; their support for the league and the local team is enormous! I still have a lot to learn, the rules and how you get to playoffs, but eventually, I'll get there; for now, Sudbury, know that I'm a proud fan of the Sudbury Wolves.
As always, I took my camera with me, but it was only at the third period that I stood up and began shooting. As a new wedding photographer in Sudbury, I'm learning my way to keep myself entertained in my off-season. I've heard some photographers in Sudbury shoot kids' games or do dance photography to fill that four to six-month gap. I would like to know if there are many weddings in winter. I don't think so; I did one last year, but with the cold, it's challenging.
Anyway, it all began fine; even though the Sudbury Wolves came down on the game, they managed to go up the score by two, but this was all out of control when the other team went ahead by 2,3 and finally 4. I was mad because I wanted to watch the Wolf every time they scored. Not cool, Sudbury Wolves! But I forgive you because they won in overtime the first time I went for the playoffs; it was an exciting time.
Now to the photography part...Yes, I started photographing in the last period, which got me less motivated, but before that, I had some popcorn, which helped me boost my motivation again, so I went up to the stands to shoot, and it was hard because the game is fast; you barely see the puck. You need a fast lens and great autofocus, and of course, for sports, you need a telephoto lens. I have all of that except the telephotos. That's why you'll see the pictures, not up close but broader shots of the game. I'm ok with that; I'm a wedding photographer, and usually, I don't need a big telephoto.
The photos are purposely taken with those colors; it's just experimenting with the camera. I have this app that will give you recipes, and every time I go out, I try to try a different one. They look kinda of blue and green. I don't remember the recipient's name, but it was a Kodak one. If you ask me, I'll probably remember or look at the app and tell you.
Overall, my second visit to the Sudbury arena was great; it was a good game and popcorn. I almost won a T-shirt and took some decent photographs. Even though we lose, I will support "our" Sudbury Wolves team; I know how it is to love a team and be there in the bad times and in the good ones, ok? So all I have to say is: Go, wolves, go! Go, wolves, go!
